Many adults and children have the day off from work or school and the MLK Day of Service is an opportunity for families to give back and spread Dr. King’s message. The Food Bank of the Southern Tier is helping with that and will be hosting a day of service and learning in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.

Children 8 years and older may participate. Volunteers will have the opportunity to:

  • Sort and repack food items for people in need.
  • Participate in Hunger 101, a simulation that helps people understand the reality of hunger.
  • Tour the Food Bank warehouse with President & CEO Natasha R. Thompson.

Space is limited and volunteers should pre-register online. Information and a full schedule of events can be found there as well.

The MLK Jr. National Day of Service will be on Monday, January 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Food Bank Warehouse located on 388 Upper Oakwood Ave in Elmira. Contact Jennifer Burbank at 796-6061 extension 4043, with any questions.
