Dempsey sends support to Andrew Jones and Texas

VESTAL (WBNG) - The University of Texas men's basketball released a statement from sophomore guard Andrew Jones and his family on Wednesday, saying Jones has been diagnosed with leukemia and has begun treatment.

Texas head coach Shaka Smart informed his team Tuesday night. The following night, Texas won an emotional double overtime thriller against #16 TCU. Texas players Eric Davis and Dylan Osetkowski held up Jones' jersey as they sung 'The Eyes of Texas' after the victory.

Jones' battle with leukemia hit the entire college basketball community hard. Thursday Binghamton men's basketball head coach Tommy Dempsey had these words of support for Jones, his family and the Texas basketball community.

"I certainly feel for Jones and the whole Texas basketball family and the kids family," said Binghamton men's head coach Tommy Dempsey. "But, this is life, and going through sports and going through adversity as he has, he'll be more prepared to deal with it. We just wish him the best."
