Expert shares tips on how to protect your identity for tax season
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- With tax season around the corner, 12 News spoke with a local expert on some of the big do's and dont's when filing your taxes.
They say, make sure to wait until you have all the forms you need, not just your final paystub.
Also, be sure to take all necessary precautions when it comes to sensitive information.
"People, increasingly are sending their information via email. And you wanna make sure that you're using a protected encryption when you do that. Don't send your social security or...your social security number or your documents through an unprotected e-mail." said Debbie Degroat of Puglisi Tax Services.
Experts say identity theft is currently one of the biggest issues the IRS has been facing.
