VESTAL (WBNG) -- Tanner Cosens and Paolo Ciferri, two former local lacrosse standouts, have been added to the Binghamton men's lacrosse coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Officially, Cosens and Ciferri will work as assistant coaches alongside second-year head coach Kevin McKeown.
"Well, it's great to have a couple of assistants that are local from the area," said McKeown at practice Thursday. "Certainly they're known within the community and with some younger players within the community."
Cosens graduated from Maine-Endwell and, more recently, was named an America East First-Team All-Conference selection after his stellar play in net last season for the Bearcats.
"It's certainly humbling to be able to come back and coach for the team that I think has given me so much," said Cosens. "I really miss playing with the guys. That's the biggest thing. But outside of that, I love being with the goalies every day and really just seeing these guys get after it and do the stuff that my friends and I did. And to see them carry that tradition on, it's really exciting. And it's a great way to spend the rest of my time here in Binghamton, honestly."
Ciferri is an Ithaca native and played college lacrosse for the Syracuse Orange. He was named a 2017 All-American.
Binghamton is just three weeks away from the start of its 2018 season. Last year, the Bearcats won a program-best 11 games and reached the conference championship for just the second time in school history.
Binghamton opens its season against Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, February 10 at 1 p.m.
