VESTAL (WBNG) - The Binghamton men's basketball team fell to 1-5 in America East play following its loss Sunday afternoon to UMass Lowell, who was previously winless in conference.
While the wins are not coming for the Bearcats, center Thomas Bruce continues to shine during his junior season. Bruce set a D-I program record with 19 rebounds Sunday. The Washington D.C. native has added five more points per game to his stat line this season. After the game, head coach Tommy Dempsey talked about trying to find Bruce more often offensively.
"We were trying to focus on getting it to him in the first half more," said Binghamton men's head coach Tommy Dempsey. "We didn't get him the ball much. We were trying. They had us pushed out toward half-court. They really got into our guards and I didn't think (we) got in. We didn't get the ball moving. We couldn't get into attack areas to throw the ball inside. That hurt us in the first half. Second half we more tried to spread them out and drive it, and we were able to get it to Thomas off of some dribble penetration. That was our most effective way to get him the ball, other than him going and getting it himself.
The Bearcats (10-11, 1-5) are on the road Wednesday at UMBC. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
