The Winter Blues Party and Jam was started in 2015 by Steve Button and Mike Malinovsky. The purpose of the event is to bring the area's musicians together to perform, with a twist. The twist is randomly drawing musicians names who were in attendance and then putting them together to perform.
Each year, Button and Malinovsky choose a local organization to donate all of the proceeds raised at the event. Former recipients have been The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in honor of Malinovsky's sister and Mercy House of the Southern Tier where Malinovsky's mother who was a resident there for a short time before passing away. More than $7,000 was donated.
This year's recipient is Traci's Hope. Traci's Hope is a not-for-profit fund set up to help men and women who are going through breast cancer in Broome, Bradford, Susquehanna and Tioga counties. Traci's Hope helps the families with things that insurance companies do not cover such as, gas cards, day care, house cleaning or mortgage payments. This organization has special meaning to Button, who's wife went through breast cancer treatment.
The event will be help on Saturday, January 27 at Touch of Texas on Front Street in Binghamton from 5 to midnight. Tanya Wheeler from Magic 101.7 FM will be the Master of Ceremonies.
This event is free and open to the public, but it accepting donations.
