ORIGINAL STORY:

NORWICH, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Chenango County officials say part of a Norwich road is temporarily closed as crews work to fix a natural gas leak.

The City of Norwich/Chenango County Emergency Operations Center posted on its social media platforms Tuesday afternoon that the leak is on Pleasant Street (State Highway 23).

Officials say there is no threat to the public, although residents in the area may small gas because the pipe is venting.

The agency notes the road will be closed until further notice and that NYSEG estimates the repair will likely take about 24 hours.
