VESTAL (WBNG) -- The Joint State Senate Task Force held a meeting Tuesday night at Binghamton University to learn more about heroin and opioid abuse in our area.
The forum is part of a series being held across New York State to learn more about what is happening with opioids in communities.
State Senator Fred Akshar is one of the co-chairs of the task force, along with co-chair and State Senator Chris Jacobs (R) who shared the importance of these forums.
"This is a challenge this heroin opioid epidemic," said State Senator Jacobs. "There's nothing comparable that we have ever had in our society it is enormous and we need to convene all resources both public and governmental and get through this."
Last year's recommendations by this task force brought legislation in New York to help combat both heroin and opioids.
