FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (WBNG/WJZ) -- A baby from Georgia with Down syndrome has been named Gerber's 2018 Spokesbaby.

The early childhood nutrition company announced in a news release Wednesday that Lucas from Dalton, Georgia is the winner of the eighth annual Gerber Baby Photo Search.

Baltimore CBS affiliate WJZ reports this is the first time a baby with Down syndrome has been selected as Gerber Spokesbaby.

“Lucas’ winning smile and joyful expression won our hearts this year, and we are all thrilled to name him our 2018 Spokesbaby,” Bill Partyka, President and CEO of Gerber, said. “Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, and this year, Lucas is the perfect fit.”

As grand prize winner, Lucas' family will receive $50,000.
