Animal Control warns of dog thefts in Tioga County

TIOGA COUNTY (WBNG) -- Waverly Barton Dog Control has seen a spike in dog thefts throughout Tioga County. 

According to the Waverly Barton Dog Control Facebook page, officers have seen a rash of dog thefts in the area recently.  

In all of these cases, dog control officers say the dogs were outside on their owner’s property, whether controlled by an invisible fence, in an outside run, or tethered outside.

In several of these cases these dogs were posted on social media beforehand as being dogs that were left outside all the time.  Dog Control advises if your dog is outside to remain outside with your dog. Berkshire and Richford Dog Control units are reiterating the same message. 

In a statement to 12 News, Patrick Cartwright Jr, the dog control officer for the Towns of Barton, Berkshire, Nichols and Richford said the following:
