Food Bank of the Southern Tier teams up with SUNY Broome for 'Fresh Food Friday'
DICKINSON (WBNG) -- The Food Bank of the Southern Tier teamed up with SUNY Broome to provide free food and groceries for students and the public during "Fresh Food Friday."
Food items are delivered to the Food Bank by either donation from stores like Walmart and Sam's Club or purchased by the Food Bank with grant money at a discount.
One student volunteer tells us that providing this food for free is important for those that may not be able to afford groceries.
"Sometimes they need different options than dining hall services and stuff like that, especially our off campus commuters use food pantries a lot, so it's necessary for them to get the food they need so they can focus on studying," said student volunteer Samantha Hernandez.
Snow didn't stop students, staff, and the public from signing in and picking up boxes of food to take home.
Upcoming Fresh Food Fridays at SUNY Broome will be March 2 and April 13.
