VESTAL (WBNG) - "I was proud of our guys," said Binghamton head coach Tommy Dempsey. "There's no hiding behind the fact that this has been a struggle."
After tying the program record with nine non-conference wins, the Bearcats won one of its first eleven conference games. Sitting at 1-10 entering Thursday night, Binghamton was on the outside looking in at the America East Tournament. A big win over Stony Brook Thursday gave the Bearcats' tournament hopes some momentum. Binghamton is now within a game of UMass Lowell, who currently owns the seventh seed and BU takes on the River Hawks Sunday. So, what did BU head coach Tommy Dempsey tell his guys during the dark times?
"You learn a lot of life lessons through sports," said Dempsey. "One of the things that I keep talking to these guys about is your heart has to stay in it regardless of the results, and you have to find purpose and passion in your performances and you have to keep believing. If you lose faith and you lose hope, then you have no chance."
Tip-off Sunday between Binghamton and UMass Lowell is set for 2 p.m. in Lowell, Massachusetts.
