The long road home: Binghamton baseball opens season in Louisiana

Posted: Updated:

VESTAL (WBNG) - The Binghamton baseball team kicks off the 2018 season Friday night with a three-game series against Northwestern State in Louisiana. It's the first time the Bearcats and Demons will ever play each other. Baseball in the Southern Tier in February and March is tough to play due to the weather, so Binghamton's home opener isn't until April 3. The Bearcats will play its first 20 games of the season on the road.

"It's just part of life within the baseball program," said Binghamton head coach Tim Sinicki. "We've got to find ways to, not only challenge our guys with good competition, but also make trips so they're not so unbearable that guys are miserable the following week because they are tired from travel. We've got to give them opportunities to continue to be student-athletes, so they have time to take care of their school work and not fall behind there."

First pitch Friday in Louisiana at 7:30 p.m.
