BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Binghamton baseball dropped its season opener against Northwestern State University, 3-2, Friday night in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The Demons scored in the first inning when the reigning America East pitcher of the year, Nick Gallagher, walked in a run. Gallagher walked five batters and allowed two runs while striking out six in three-and-two-thirds innings pitched.
The Bearcats tied the game in the fourth, but Northwestern State quickly retook the lead. Binghamton loaded the bases in the eighth inning, but failed to score.
Anthony Meduri recorded three hits and a RBI in the loss for Binghamton.
Final score - Northwestern State (1-0) - 3, Binghamton (0-1) - 2
Three-game series with the Demons continues Saturday at noon.
