PORTLAND, ME (WBNG) -- Binghamton women's basketball seniors Imani Watkins and Alyssa James were honored at the America East awards ceremony Friday night in Portland, Maine.

Watkins was named America East Player of the Year for the very first time.

"Imani [Watkins] is a remarkable player," said Binghamton head coach Linda Cimino at practice Wednesday. "Not just offensively, but defensively. She's second in the league in steals, and she single-handedly has won us games this year, and she's made her teammates better. There's no other player in this league that's as valuable to their team as Imani [Watkins] is to our team."

Watkins led the conference in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game. The senior guard also repeated as a first-team all-conference selection.

Meanwhile, James was named America East Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season.

"Alyssa James, in my opinion, is the best defensive player I've ever coached, and if she was to win the defensive player of the year again, which in my opinion, she should, she deserves it," said Cimino Wednesday. "She's tops in the country in blocks."

James led the conference in rebounds, averaging 10 boards per game, and in blocks, averaging 3.4 swats per game. The senior center also repeated as a second-team all-conference selection.

Watkins and James were also named to the America East All-Defensive Team.

Sophomore guard Kai Moon was picked as a third-team all-conference selection.

The Bearcats battle Hartford in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
