ENDICOTT (WBNG) -- A new initiative will provide every child born in Broome County with a book immediately after birth.
According to the county, the Baby's First Book program is meant to connect kids and parents through reading together.
Officials say this builds emotional bonds and promotes healthy child development.
"It's those simple interactions that make a difference and that's the message we really want parents to know," said Civic Engagement Coordinator Lisa Strahley.
The program began March 1. Local hospitals have been supplied with more than a hundred gift bags to give families in the hospital after a child is born.
