NYSPHSAA basketball playoffs - Seton Catholic, Newfield on to regionals

Posted: Updated:

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - New York state high school basketball playoffs kicked off Tuesday night in the Southern Tier with sub-regionals. On the girls side, Seton Catholic took on Rye in the Class A playoffs at Union-Endicott High School. For the boys, Maine-Endwell battled Ardsley and Newfield played King at Johnson City High School.

Final scores: (Girls) #11 Seton Catholic - 60, Rye - 44 (Class A sub-regional)

High scorer: (Seton) Julia Hauer - 19 points

FUN FACT: Seton Catholic junior forward Julia Hauer scored her 1,000 career point in the victory.

"First half might be a little jittery," said Seton Catholic girls head coach Colleen Jayne. "There's some kids coming off the bench that didn't play last year in that state run. I feel like what they did do is settle in and I think that was from experience."

(Boys) #20 Ardsley - 59, Maine-Endwell - 41 (Class A sub-regional)

High scorer: (M-E) Cody Petro - 23 points

"They moved the ball extremely well," said Maine-Endwell boys head coach Bill Ocker. "That ball was swinging at a pace that we aren't use to. Some pretty good skilled kids were catching it and attacking and slinging it again. We had trouble keeping up with it."

#4 Newfield - 67, King - 46 (Class D sub-regional)

High scorer: (Newfield) Jacob Humble - 22 points

"Last game, I started to get back into things, and this game, it felt great, coming off a good game," said Newfield freshman guard Jacob Humble. "The nerves were still there, but after I hit those first couple of shots, I knew that I was on, and it felt amazing."

"We shot the ball really, really well," said Newfield boys head coach Chris Bubble. "Jacob was open a lot, and when he's feeling it and hitting it, he's tough to defend because he stretches the defense."
