ELMIRA, N.Y. (WBNG/WENY) -- The suspect in an attempted kidnapping turned fatal home invasion has died.
Curtis Burrows, 32, of Mansfield, Pennsylvania was found dead in his jail cell Tuesday evening, according to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.
In Corning, authorities say Burrows tried to handcuff a woman to her vehicle in November, displaying a handgun in the process. The woman was able to get out of the vehicle, police say, but Burrows took off in the vehicle before police found it unattended about half an hour later.
Later that night, Corning police and state police responded to a home in Big Flats for reports of gun shots during a home invasion.
Police say Burrows fatally shot the one of the home's residents, 60-year-old Timothy Webster, then took off in Webster's truck.
Burrows was later found by authorities in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. He was charged with murder, burglary, robbery, kidnapping, grand larceny and criminal possession of a weapon.
The Chemung County Criminal Investigation Division is investigating Burrow's death.
