BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Volunteers of America Upstate New York got a $60,000 check from the Home Depot Foundation on Wednesday.
It was presented at the agency's office in Binghamton.
The money will go toward housing programs in our area.
The ceremony also recognized the Citizen U teen leaders who collected more than 12,000 items across three high schools for shelters run by Volunteers of America.
"I think it really opened the eyes of the community and got people involved and got people saying like, yeah I can make a difference," said Citizen U Team leader Peyton Hefley.
Binghamton, Vestal, and Union-Endicott High Schools collected items.
They had a friendly competition to see which school could collect the most.
We learned Wednesday that it was Union-Endicott.
