BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- The Southern Tier Independence Center on Thursday held open interviews for an up and coming position.
The local nonprofit is looking to expand its support to disabled individuals by hiring Direct Support Professionals.
This position provides individuals with direct one-on-one support. Assisting in areas from social skills to cooking and cleaning are among of the many ways this position helps the disabled become more independent.
"It's a really important position and I really just don't think people know enough about direct support professionals and what they do," said STIC Habilitation Director Leucret Hesco.
The Southern Tier Independence Center has been providing services to disabled members of the community for 35 years.
Those from the community habilitation department say they are continually hiring in this flexible and rewarding field of work.
