VESTAL (WBNG) -- A hair shaving event to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation was held at the Binghamton University Events Center Monday evening.
It's all part of an effort to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which aims to raise awareness about cancer. At Monday's event 15 'shavee's' participated.
BU hopes to raise $5,000 to $6,000 this year.
Last year they had 40 participants and collected more than $13,000 for the foundation.
Students at the university say its important to participate.
"To keep raising awareness and raising money to give scientists more resources to keep researching and find a cure," Carrie Maniccia, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President said.
The head shaving events, which happen nationwide, demonstrate solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during cancer treatment.
