No injuries after car fire in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Binghamton fire officials said a driver escaped his car with no injuries after the engine caught on fire at the corner of Tompkins and Jackson Streets.

Both Binghamton Fire Department and Binghamton Police Department responded to the call shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire officials said a man was driving his car when he noticed smoke coming from the front of his car.

A portion of Tompkins Street was blocked off by police while they handled the situation.

Officials were able to put the fire out completely, but the car was destroyed. Tompkins Street was re-opened shortly after 5:15 p.m.
