JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- Johnson City High School Students got an inspirational message Wednesday morning from a man who's overcome many challenges.
Neal Petersen is a history-making extreme adventurer, around-the-world racing sailor and international speaker. He says he's faced the challenges of a childhood physical disability, poverty, and discrimination during the harsh Apartheid era in South Africa.
Petersen says he responds to all challenges as opportunities.
"I want our students to become life-long learners. Inexplicable about where they are in the world or what their circumstances are. Their future is in their hands, and they must take opportunities they are given. I was given a lack of opportunities in South Africa. But in spite of the lack of opportunities, I was still able to fight and achieve these goals and take on lofty challenges," Petersen said.
He says if there is one take-away from his speech, It's that in life there are no barriers, only solutions.
