JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) – Johnson City High School students will perform a hit Broadway play with costumes worn by Broadway stars.

"Costuming of any show brings out the character more. It makes them feel more in it," said Jennifer Chudacik, the vocal musical director for the school.

Theater students at Johnson City High School know the importance of looking the part.

"To me, the costumes really put it all together," said R.J. Fox, a senior theater student at Johnson City High School.

The school reached out to Costume World Theatrical in Florida, which provided clothes straight from the Broadway version of their latest production, "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

“Usually costumes that come from Broadway has a lot of color. I know I like a lot of color in my productions," said Chudacik.

Some of the costumes have been worn by actor Matthew Broderick.

Broderick won a Tony award for his role as the musical's main character, J.P. Finch.

"She did say 'This is the costume from the revival, Matthew Broderick' and I was like 'Oh you're kidding?'"said Chudacik.

Students say they are excited to perform in the historic stage clothes.

“The costumes just add a whole other layer to the characters and it puts us back to the era of when the show was actually done," said Fox.

The theater department is grateful to the school district for making it all possible.

"It makes us feel very special that we have the quality costumes that people have had on Broadway," said Fox.

"For them to be wearing professionally made outfits on stage or have a professional set built and to put on this musical. I think this is one of the many things the school district does to open their doors to the community," said Chudacik.

The students say they are ready to put on a show everyone will remember.

"We are really excited because we put a lot of hard work into this show, that energy is really there," said Fox.

Opening night for "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" is Thursday at 7:30 p.m at Johnson City High School.

The students will be performing all weekend long.
