Tebow singles as the Ponies get swept by Akron, 4-0

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Tim Tebow went 1-for-3 with a line drive single, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies got shutout by the Akron RubberDucks, 4-0, in front of just 910 fans Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.

"[Tim Tebow's] contact point is a little bit further out in front, so he can extend those arms and that's what he did in his first at-bat," said Rumble Ponies manager Luis Rojas. "I'm pleased that he was ready. We saw some video of that pitcher earlier, and I think timing him from the on-deck and watching him closely in the dugout before he stepped on the on-deck led for him to be on time and hit that bullet to right-center field. So, better at-bats today. I thought his stride got shorter. He was behind the ball more. He could extend his arms more. His mechanics were pretty good tonight."

So, after sweeping Portland to start the season, the Rumble Ponies get swept by Akron to finish their opening six-game homestand with three wins and three losses.

Akron (4-3) 4 - Binghamton (3-3) 0

WP: Aaron Civale (1-0)

LP: Daniel Zamora (0-1)

The Rumble Ponies enjoy an off-day Thursday before opening a six-game road trip starting at Portland on Friday.
