NEW BERLIN (WBNG) -- Hundreds of pigs were killed when flames ripped through a pig farm in New Berlin around 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the New Berlin fire chief.
"Once you get there and it's fully involved like that there's not much you can do," said New Berlin Fire Barry Jacobs.
The owners told 12 News approximately 300 pigs inside the barn at 107 Clark Lane died.
"You know there's not much you can do. You try to make them feel the best you can, but you lose your livelihood and and stuff like that. It's kind of tough," said Jacobs.
Multiple fire agencies responded.
Community members stopped along the road to see the debris left behind.
"It's bad enough if the barns are empty when they burn down you know, no animals, but this is devastating," said Valeria Goude of New Berlin.
Jacobs says the barn is a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
