Police say man burned girlfriend's face with cigar

CORNING, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Corning police say they have arrested a 20 year old for assaulting his girlfriend. 

On Sunday around 4:00 p.m. members of the Corning Police Department say they responded to Hornby Road, in the Town of Corning, for a report of a domestic incident.

Officers spoke with a 19 year old female who alleges her boyfriend, Ali H. Muhammad Jr., intentionally pressed his burning cigar into her face during a verbal argument. 

According to police the victim says she then drove to a friend’s house on Hornby Road and called authorities.

Members of the Corning Police Department responded and Muhammad Jr. was taken into custody without incident a short time later.

Muhammad Jr, of Elmira, was charged with:

  • Assault in the 2nd Degree – a class D Felony
  • Menacing in the 2nd Degree – a class A misdemeanor
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree – a class A misdemeanor

Muhammad, Jr was arraigned in the City of Corning Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail. He is scheduled to re-appear in court Tuesday.
