2 P.M. UPDATE:

VESTAL (WBNG) -- Binghamton University Police, New York State Police, the Broome County District Attorney's Office and New York State Forest Rangers are investigating the stabbing death of a student on campus Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Joao Souza, a freshman engineering student.  

Investigators say he was fatally stabbed inside Windham Hall.

At a 2 p.m. news conference, officials released surveillance pictures of the suspect. His identity has not been released by authorities.

"The suspect, described as a light-skinned male wearing dark pants and a dark, Puma hooded sweatshirt, remains at large. Additional details will be provided as soon as possible. Any information that you have should be reported to BinghamtonU Police at 607-777-2393," BU officials wrote in a news release.

Police say they believe this was not a random act.

Binghamton University officials say another update on the investigation will be announced at 5 p.m. Monday. You can watch the news conference live on 12 News at 5 p.m. on WBNG-TV.

1:43 P.M. UPDATE:

VESTAL (WBNG) -- The latest on the investigation into a deadly stabbing at Binghamton University Sunday night.

Binghamton University officials will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. This will be streamed live on wbng.com and on our Facebook page.

According to the college, the victim has been identified as 19-year-old Joao Souza, a freshman engineering student.

Police locked down a section of campus Monday afternoon during the search for the suspect. 

At 12:40 p.m., a student told 12 News he saw someone matching the description of the suspect outside Palisades Hall on campus. 

Police told people in the area of the Palisades and Nyack buildings in Hillside to stay back while they searched inside following a potential sighting of the suspect. It appears to have been a false alarm.
