BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Fourth grade students at Horace Mann Elementary in Binghamton have been dreaming of going on a field trip to Cooperstown, but the school didn't have enough money to make it happen.
Students sent letters to local businesses asking for money to cover the cost of a charter bus, which was $500. Thanks to Binghamton Rumble Ponies Owner John Hughes, that dream of going to Cooperstown is now a reality.
Friday, Hughes surprised students with a check for $500.
The students will be heading to the Farmer's Museum and the Fenimore Arts Museum in Cooperstown on May 16.
The Binghamton Police Department, Bates Troy and Citrea Restaurant and Bar have also donated money. Members of the Horace Mann Booster Club say they're going to use the extra donations for future field trips. According to teacher Karen Zetzsche, it just so happens Friday marked the 222nd birthday of the founder of the school, Horace Mann.
