JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- The Johnson City Elks Club and the Johnson City Rotary Club teamed up to present every Johnson City third grader with their very own dictionary.
Friday's distribution was part of a nationwide campaign called "The Dictionary Project," which aims to promote literacy in young students.
"Dictionaries are one of those universal traits that you use in all aspects. Whether it be math, whether it be English, whether it be history, whether it be any of those activities. The basic foundation of understanding words and everything involved with it is the key, and a dictionary is that starting point. It will always be a reference for them to use throughout their careers," said Johnson City Rotary Club President Rocky Martinez.
Organizers say more than 160 dictionaries were handed out.
