Local police ride bicycles to DC to honor fallen officers

(WBNG) -- Broome County officers Will Andres, Kevin Brown, and Matt Brubaker made the trip from Reading, Pennsylvania to Washington D.C. to commemorate our fallen heroes.

The bicycle trip took two days.

Outside of of the nations's capital, they met up with hundreds of other officers who biked from different states. Then, they all rode in for Sunday evening's candlelight vigil on the National Mall.

"To kinda be a part of that and know that what you are doing really does mean something to more than just yourself is, it's a really big deal," said Kevin Brown.

"And as a brotherhood, we met officers from all over the country that came and did this ride. And though we didn't know each other at the beginning, toward the end we're a family as one," said Will Andres.

Our local officers biked to raise money for Law Enforcement United, a nonprofit supporting families of fallen police officers. They raised $15,000 each.
