Nick Wegmann signs to play pro ball with Washington Wild Things

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Vestal's own and now former Binghamton University pitcher Nick Wegmann is taking his talents professionally. The Washington Wild Things announced on they signed Wegmann to a pro contract on twitter Tuesday afternoon.

The Wild Things are a member of the Frontier League, an independent baseball league. The team is based out of Washington, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh.

Wegmann told 12 Sports on Tuesday that it's a dream come true and he actually signed on Friday, but the team had to wait to make a roster move, so Tuesday is his first official day as a Wild Thing and he already feels a part of the team.

"It's awesome," said Washington Wild Things pitcher Nick Wegmann. "It's a little bit different than college. In this league we play 96 games, so everyone isn't living and dying on every single at-bat or every single pitch. It's more of a relaxed atmosphere. In the clubhouse, it's a little more relaxed. So far I'm really enjoying being a part of the team."

Wegmann told 12 Sports he will be pitching out of the bullpen right now.
