OWEGO (WBNG) -- The Tioga County Sheriff's Office was recently reaccredited by the state.
Its patrol division received an award for passing strict guidelines. Some examples include issuing tickets or arrests.
The sheriff's office has been accredited since 1998.
Every five years it's renewed by New York to make sure it's following proper standards.
"We don't take any short cuts because you can't when you're accredited," said Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard. "You can't take any short cuts. There are no short cuts to take. So it is a big deal."
The civil department, jail, and the 911 dispatch center are all accredited at the sheriff's office.
