HONESDALE, Pa. (WNEP) -- A retired Pennsylvania State Trooper was cited and told to pay a fine after shooting a deer that was hit by a car in Wayne County, according to police.

Paul Semler of Honesdale shot the deer on Route 6 last week to put it out of its misery, police say.

According to the court documents, firing a gun in Honesdale is in violation of a borough ordinance.
