FOR SALE: Chroma Cafe and Bakery in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Chroma Cafe and Bakery on Court Street went up for sale a few days ago.

"It was not an easy decision," said owner Nancy Hauptfleisch.

Nancy and her husband Heath own the business. They've been in the area for the past six years.

It's a place where you can buy baked goods, breakfast and lunch.

"They've always been like family to any customer that's ever been here," said Louis Lubin of Binghamton. "They always treat you guys, us, like family essentially."

The Hauptfleisch's say they're selling the business to get out of the Southern Tier.

"We wanted to move somewhere where it's sunny and warm all year," said Nancy. "We both have a hard time with these very long winters here."

Nancy says she's looking for a buyer who will continue to run the business.

She says she wants the buyer to keep the same name and the same type of food.

"We had said that we would even stay on for a couple of months and train and teach them all the recipes and teach them how to do everything," explained Nancy.

Customers are hoping the bakery sticks around.

"Just continue that would be nice," said Yushi Kawasumi of Binghamton."I mean Binghamton needs businesses like this so I think it'll be a good thing if someone is able to pick it up and keep it going."

Business owners are hoping for the same thing.

"We're the only ones in the area baking from scratch in the way that we do," said Nancy. "We think that we're kind of unique and people would like to see us stay."

She says she'll be patient with the selling process.

"We expect this to take up to a year," added Nancy. "You know things don't change over night. We don't know that it well sell quick. It will take time."

Owners say the bakery will remain open for now and customers are welcome to stop by.
