Fire at Binghamton University, firefighter taken to hospital

VESTAL (WBNG) -- Several emergency response agencies were called to a fire Tuesday afternoon at Binghamton University.

According to Binghamton University officials, the Vestal Fire Department found smoldering ash in the heating plant silo. Vestal Fire officials say there were people inside the building when the fire started, but they made it out safely. 

University officials say a firefighter was taken away in an ambulance due to a heat-related injury.  Authorities have not said which department the firefighter is with.

  • Superior Ambulance
  • Harpur's Ferry Ambulance
  • Town of Union Ambulance
  • Binghamton University Police Department
  • Vestal Police Department

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were still working to cool the ashes.



VESTAL (WBNG) – Firefighters responded Tuesday afternoon to reports of a fire on the Binghamton University campus.

Johnson City Fire Chief Paul Hlebica says the Johnson City Fire Department is assisting the Vestal Fire Department on the fire at a physical facilities building off the Bunn Hill Access Road.

Flames were reported around 3 p.m. Tuesday. 

Authorities have not said what caused the fire or if anyone was hurt.
