BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- A man instrumental in numerous road improvement projects over the years here in the Southern Tier is calling it quits.
New York State Department of Transportation Region 9 Director Jack Williams is retiring on July 26.
Williams was appointed acting regional director in 2000 and became the permanent director two years later.
He's worked on hundreds of projects in our area, including the Vestal Rail Trail, the Route 201 fly-over and the Prospect Mountain project.
"All of the relationships with people that I built with people I work with, stakeholders, elected officials, community groups, all of that have been extremely rewarding to me over a 35 year career certainly but, really the last 19 years as the director," Williams said on Tuesday.
From 2012 to 2014 Williams acted as the regional director for the Utica region as well.
