Police: Windsor man dies after car goes over a creek, lands in woods

TOWN OF WINDSOR (WBNG) -- New York State Police say they were called to a fatal crash in the town of Windsor around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, a Windsor man was driving on Old Route 17 when his vehicle went off the roadway for an unknown reason. 

Troopers say his vehicle struck several mailboxes, went through a lawn and over a creek, before landing in a wooded area.  

After interviewing people who live in the area, police say an investigation found that the crash happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, when a resident heard a loud noise but was not able to see what caused it.  

Troopers say another resident contacted 911 Thursday morning when they spotted the vehicle.

When troopers arrived, the driver was found deceased.  

State police say the investigation is ongoing.

DAMASCUS (WBNG) -- Emergency crews remain at the scene of a deadly crash in Broome County.

New York State Police tell 12 News investigators believe a Windsor man was driving on Old Route 17 in Damascus between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when his vehicle went off the road and into the Tuscarora Creek.

Troopers say the identity of the man will not be released until family members are notified.
