More than $468K given to four Southern Tier fire departments

(WBNG) – Four fire departments in our region will get thousands in federal funding, United States Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Wednesday.

The four departments were allocated $468,590 through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

A breakdown of the department receiving funding can be found below:

  • Spencer Fire Department-- $208,096 to purchase 20 sets of turnout gear and 16 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) devices.
  • Harpursville Fire Department-- $157,720 to purchase a variety of tools for vehicle extraction.
  • West Corners Fire Department-- $86,107 to install a new diesel exhaust system to remove diesel exhaust fumes from the station.
  • Coopers Plains Long Acres Fire Department-- $16,667 to purchase a new washer and dryer for turnout gear, which will prevent firefighter’s equipment from being contaminated.
