UPDATE: Multiple gunshots in Binghamton prompted school lockdown

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Multiple gunshots fired in a Binghamton neighborhood prompted school leaders to take precautions.

After a fight on Murray Street near Main Street around 11:20 a.m. Thursday led to several shots being fired, according to police.

"No shooting victim was located, no reported injuries or damage was reported," police said.

No arrests have been made, but officers are searching for several suspects.

Nearby schools, including Binghamton High School, were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

"There is no evidence or information that this incident involved or was related to any area school or student," police said.

The police investigation is being conducted by the Binghamton Police Detective Division and Patrol Division with assistance from the Binghamton Police K-9 Unit.

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Binghamton High School was on "lock out" because of police activity in the area, according to the Binghamton City School District.

School leaders say the "lock out" was lifted Thursday afternoon and no one was hurt.

"As a precaution, BHS is currently on LOCK OUT due to police activity in the area. No one will be allowed in or out of the high school until the situation is resolved. Classes will continue as normal," according to a post on the school district's website.

12 News reached out to Binghamton police for more information, but officials said they could not comment on the situation.
