Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A more than 53,000-square-foot lumber yard went up in flames early Sunday morning.

The fire happened at Wagner Lumber on Gaskill Road in Owego.

The call came in a little before 3:30 a.m., and the Campville Fire Department had to request backup.

Seventeen departments from three counties showed up to fight the fire. The lumber yard's location in the countryside forced crews to truck water to the site.

"We used the facility at Lockheed Martin and some hydrants on Route 17C to provide water," said Tioga County Fire Coordinator John Scott.

Fire departments from Tioga, Broome and Bradford counties responded.

According to Scott, Wagner Lumber is 53,395 square feet.

On arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the sawmill building in the center of the facility complex.

Crews had the fire under control a little less than six hours later.

According to a press release, crews were hampered by sub-freezing temperatures.

No one was injured during the incident.

The fire will be looked into by Tioga County Fire Investigation. It is currently listed as accidental with an unknown cause.
