Major Crimes Down In Binghamton

By WBNG News

The number of major crimes in the City of Binghamton is on the decline.

The Police Department released its 2007 Crime Report.

It says major offenses dropped by 257, or 10-percent, from 2006.

Including a 5.6-percent decline in aggravated assaults.

The Mayor's Office attributes this decline to it's community policing approach and new training.

The Department also had above average success in making arrests.

For all major offenses combined, the department's success rate was 54-percent.

The national average is 31-percent.

For homicides, Binghamton had a 100-percent success rate.

The nation average is 62.
