Firewood Warning

Firewood Warning

By WBNG News

The firewood at your home may be infested. You're being urged not to take it camping with you this memorial day weekend.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is urging campers to get their firewood, from sources near your campsite.

The DEC says forests are under attack from numerous invasive exotic insects.

It says they can nest in logs without you knowing it.

Should you take that wood camping, they can escape, and infect new timber.

In past years the state has been hit with Chestnut blight, Dutch Elm and Beech Bark disease and european gypsy moth.
