Flash flooding strikes eastern Delaware County.

Heavy rain caused evacuations, damage to homes, and road closures.

In the Town of Colchester, a state of emergency has been declared.

Action News Reporter Reed Buterbaugh toured the area and has more.

More than a dozen roads, washed out in Colchester and Andes.

At 6 o'clock Firefighters set up along entry points to the closed roads.

"We've confirmed we have lost some sections of roads we have teams up right now and the primary missions is just to check on the welfare of all residents," said firefighter Brian Murphy.

36 Firefighters, many of them on All-terrain vehicles went door to door along the flooded roads to make sure people were safe.

20 people were evacuated and taken to Roscoe Central School for the night.

The Downsville Fire Department says 10 to 15 homes have suffered water damage.

But with more rain in the forecast, firefighters had to suspend their mission.

"They're going to be taking care of things until 9 o'clock. Until then we're going to bring everybody back at night time. Especially with everybody knowing the heavy rain is coming we're not going to have everybody out in the field just cause the risk is way too high." said Assistant Fire Chief Erik Johnson.

Firefighters will be back to continue the job at 6 am Thursday.

The department has requested resources from federal firefighter and law enforcement agencies.

As of Midnight, parts of Route 206 and 30 remain closed in the Andes Colchester area.
