Chenango Forks senior Kelsey Brown has been a member of the cross country team for the past 6 seasons.
She says she started running with her mom and sisters, when they were running for the Blue Devils cross country team.

"It was really nice because we got to spend time together, family time and it was also a good bonding experience as well as improving individually how I would do."
Brown says she loves running because it gives her a chance to bond with her teammates.
But it also provides her some time to think.
"I can sort through things throughout the day when I run so its not just boring like some people would think. It just helps me think through what I need to do, what I have done and reflect."
Last year, she was named the team's most valuable runner.
This year, she's a team captain and the unquestioned leader of the team.
Coaches say she's a sweet, smiling kid that's fun to be around.
And she sets a good example for her teammates.

"She's pretty much irreplaceable. You don't replace a personality like that. You don't replace someone that is that hard working and sets such a great example for the rest of her teammates and we'll have to do it by committee I think. It's going to take 2 or 3 girls to take her place."
In the classroom, Brown carries a 96 average.
She hopes to continue her education at Wake Forest next year and major in math, which also happens to be her favorite subject in school.
"I have a really great teacher and he's really inspiring and to see how passionate he is about it and it reflects on me and I feel the same way towards the subject."
Brown says she probably will try to join a club team in college because running and school work may be a little overwhelming.
She hopes to find a group of girls to run with in college.
But if she can't, she will still keep running because it provides her with an outlet when she needs one.
And that's why Kelsey Brown is this week's Academic All-Star.
