Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Susquehanna Valley senior Tiffany Hawley does not believe in taking the easy way out.
She takes the hardest courses, and in track runs the most grueling events.
All with a smile on her face.
Even if her career choice has her head in the stars, she's done more than enough to earn this week's academic all star.
" When I told my mom she said, and what exactly will you be doing."
Telling her mom that she's going to RPI to become an astrophysicist is about the craziest thing Tiffany Hawley has done.
But she came to that decision like she does any other, by carefully analyzing the information in front of her.
" I want to major in astrophysics , because I really love the astronomy aspect of it. Also since taking physics as 11th grader I really loved all the labs we did everything really interested me. So combining the best of the two worlds, it will be really fun."
A straight A student, Tiffany is taking AP classes in physics, calculus, economics and government, while juggling an after school schedule that includes drama club, mathletes, spanish club, national honors society and SADD.
And if that seems like a lot, it doesn't even compare to running the 3000 or steeplechase in track.
" She initially was a great cross country runner, and then when I meet a girl to do steeple chase she stepped up. It's not amended to many girls are willing to take on the challenge and land in a dirty muddy pool of water. But she's been steeple chasing for three years and had a personal best this year. "
With this SV standout it's clear her best is yet to come.
And Tiffany is already planning it out.
" I would really love to work at NASA. I actually plan to go to grad school and do an internship with NASA. So that would definitely be my dream job."
Her head may be in the stars, but her feet are firmly planted on the ground. It's why Susquehanna Valley senior Tiffany Hawley is this week's academic all star.
