Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton)
Binghamton cross country and track star Abbie Biedeaux may feel like she's battling her own personal bests, but in the meantime she's leaving plenty of other student-athlete's in the dust. Both in school and on the track.
"The same discipline that she's applied to the classroom with such success," said Dave Cody, Bideaux's track coach at BHS. "She's brought with her to athletics."
That determination has led Abbie to a STAC Championship and multiple State Meets on the track, and led her to rank first in her class of nearly 500 students at B-H-S in the classroom. However, she's till striving for more.
"Every time I accomplish a goal, I just want to go further," said Bideaux. "My coach and my parents always push me to do my best."
Bideaux's pursuit of excellence has led her to take her talents in both running and academics to Cornell next year. She may be a fierce competitor on the outside, but there's actually a different reason she likes to run so much.
"To me I just love that when I run I can clear my mind and I'm just at peace," she said. "All of my stress from school or whatever goes away."
But there's one thing for certain, those that teach and coach Abbie at Binghamton won't be forgetting this student-athlete anytime soon.
"It's been one of the highlights of a very long coaching career," said Cody. "I've been at this since the mid-80's, and I've dealt with some exceptional athletes, and certainly Abbie is right at the top of that list."
