(WBNG Binghamton) The Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome will host the 3rd Annual Invictus 5K Run/Walk on Aug. 9.

Rick Materese, executive director of Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome came to the Action News studio Monday to share about the event.

The race will start and end at the Boys and Girls Club at One Clubhouse Rd., Endicott.

Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m. and race will start at 9 a.m.

It is a flat and fast course along paved roads and a trail, a great course for first time runners.

No strollers or head sets are allowed due to safety issues.

The Invictus race is dedicated to the memory of Lawrence (Larry) Hynes, a coach and educator in the Union Endicott School District for many years who died in 2009.

His passion, dedication, and positive attitude was emulated in everything he did in life. His legacy will live on through the lives of the students whom he educated and coached along their educational journey. Every child, student, and athlete was so special to him and he had the innate ability to motivate them to strive to reach their full potential in life.

Proceeds to will be used to upgrade the club's kitchen.
