Around the Tiers: Ukrainian Friday Dinners

(WBNG Binghamton) Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church is hosting its annual Friday Dinners.

From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Friday, dinners will be served in the Sacred Heart Church Hall at 230 Ukrainian Hill Rd. in Johnson City.

Ukrainian Dinner
Home Made Soup
3 Potato Pyrohy
2 Holubtsi
1 Dessert
1 Beverage/ 1 refill

Fish Dinner
Home Made Soup
3 Potato Pyrohy
1 Pc. Fried Haddock
1 Dessert
1 Beverage/ 1 refill

Dinners are $9.00.

There will also be a la carte.

Pyrohy
Ukrainian "dumplings" or ravioli. Delicate dough pockets stuffed with a delicious filling of either traditional potato and cheese or a mild but tangy sauerkraut. Topped with butter and sauteed onions.
Holubtsi
Tender young cabbage leaves wrapped around a delicately seasoned filling of ground meat and rice, then cooked in a savory tomato sauce. A traditional favorite.

Take out orders for Pyrohy or Holubtsi may be placed by calling (607) 797-6294. Pick up is on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
