(WBNG Binghamton) A great program to help children read is about to make a big release. Tia Zink stopped by to talk about "BOOKS."

BOOKS released the following statement:

BOOKS is a partnership of Senator Tom Libous and Morrisville State College.

The program is designed to encourage reading and to make reading fun for every kid.

Every year for the past 10 years we have developed a list of new and classic books that we recommend as gifts for children during the holidays.

The list covers books from infant through young adults.

Initially the list was only available on our website but three years ago we realized it would be more convenient for people to have a copy in their hand when they went to visit the bookstore so we began printing the list and distributing it in the community.

This year we have distributed 6,500 of the lists in Broome, Tioga and Chenango Counties.

They are available in 85 venues: family restaurants, entertainment venues, book stores, schools, churches, pediatrician offices and libraries.

We encourage books as a gift because they are gifts that be opened time and again, don't wear out and you never get the wrong size. Giving a book develops life skills for a child and when you give a child a book it shows them that books have value to you.
